Crazy Day

So as you probably know it stormed here pretty bad last night. I am grateful that we have power today and that a tree didn't fall on us... or worse.

However, these storms made my day very interesting.

Eliza has been sick lately. A runny nose, cough, sneezing... that sort of thing. So she has stayed home and Kase and I have alternated being off work with her. But today she was sooo pitiful and icky so I decided to take her to the doctor.

We got there early this morning after maneuvering through downed trees, only to find that the doctor was running late due to her power being out. I can't be mad because she is usually right on time, plus she can't help that she has no power. So I had to entertain a 1 year old in a tiny patient room. (Side note: I SWEAR to you that she picked out the blue floor tile after I asked her to find the blue one. It may be in my head but I am going to pretend it's not.)

After she was diagnosed with an ear infection, we were on our way back through downed trees to drop off her perscription. (Note to self: change to a pharmacy with a drive through.) We were told it would be a few minutes, so I loaded my screaming baby back into the carseat and we headed over to Hardees because someone I know has a really bad addiction to their bacon-egg-cheese biscuits. (They are REALLY good.)

We rolled up to the drive threw and were told they were closed because of no power. So we drove over to McDonalds and waited in a really long line of disappointed hardees customers till we got to the ordering place and were told that they were only taking cash because their card machines were down. So my emergency 20 was broken out, because when I need a biscuit it is an emergency, and I partook of a not-so-great-mcdonalds biscuit.

After running another errand, I headed back to the pharmacy, unloaded the baby, walked inside, headed towards the pharmacy.... and the power went out. I just stood there with a crying baby in a pitch black store. The pharmacist started pulling this big metal gate shut. All I could think was ARE YOU KIDDING ME.

So I took a shot and asked the pharmacist if he could take cash for our prescription. He said he could and let us inside his gate thing-a-ma-jig. I thought that was really nice of him because I am pretty sure he wasn't suppose to do that for me. So we were about to leave and the store's electricity came back on and so we were able to pay like normal people.

Now, I am home in my air conditioned house with a baby who is feeling better already. You can't beat that. Unless maybe if I had a hardees biscuit right about now.

PS Hope everyone's electricity comes on soon.

PSS Today was kindof scary. If there was a disaster, how would you pay for anything without cash? The pharmacist said they can't even take checks anymore without electricity because they now have to verify them electronically. Also, I really need to work on my food storage.

So we just got back into town tonight and totally missed the storm (which I heard nothing about but saw trees down everywhere coming back into Knoxville). I'm glad you guys are okay though and especially glad Eliza is feeling better.

Your store experience sounds dreadful and reminded me that 1) I also need to switch to Walgreens because they have drive-through windows AND I need to carry more cash with me!
