Eliza's Urologist Appointment

On July 23rd, I took Eliza to her urologist for her annual exam. If you don't know, she had a dilated kidney when she was born because one of her ureters was not draining fluid from her kidney properly. They never found a reason for this, and it wasn't causing any problems so they just had us come back periodly to do ultrasounds to check on the problem.

I was a bit worried how Eliza would handle her appointment. She is very smart, and she is scared of most everything. (She is afraid of bandaids.) So I explained to her that we were going to a different doctor from her normal doctor and that he was going to put some jelly on her belly and take pictures of her belly to make sure everything is working good. I told her that it was like when mommy went to the doctor and we could see Caroline inside my belly. So she seemed ok with that.

Kase couldn't get off work that day so it was just Eliza and me. We waited in the waiting room for an hour. With a 3 year old. It was awesome. (Side note: WHY do they make an appointment and then have you wait for an hour?! They apologized and said that they had some proceedures that morning that took longer than expected. But REALLY???!!!)

So by the time we got to our room, Eliza was pretty nervous. The doctor came in and she started to freak out. This doctor is not my favorite. He just doesn't really have great bedside manner. But he is a specialist and you don't really get to pick those out. So Eliza starts crying and saying she didn't want to lay down on the table. I was trying to calm her down, meanwhile, the doctor says "why is she so scared it doesn't hurt at all." Really Doc? I don't know, maybe because she is 3 and she has NO IDEA what is going on? Besides that you are a PEDIATRIC urologist, shouldn't you be a little better with kids? Then he puts the ultrasound thing on her arm to show her that it doesn't hurt but she didn't tell her that he was going to do that so she screamed, I mean, SCREAMED bloody murder. So the doctor tells me to hold Eliza on my lap with her facing me (another side note: his instructions were crappy. He is not very good at that either.) and he will do the ultrasound on her back to see her kidneys instead of her belly.

I put Eliza on my lap and she is crying and upset but she lets him put the jelly on her back and begin the ultrasound. I started talking to her to distract her. On the wall behind her was a picture of Superman and she is slightly obsessed with WonderWoman/Justice League people. So I asked her about who was on the wall. Then I asked her who is her favorite super hero. She didn't answer. I said "Is Wonder Woman your favorite super hero?" She said with her shaking voice "No. Daddy is my favorite super hero." Awww. My heart melted a little.

We made it through the ultrasound and the doctor said her dilation is almost completely gone. I heard the nurse practitioner tell him that the dilationg use to be a 4 (which is really bad. Also, apparently the doctor doesn't even have to read your case file beforehand. I really should have been a doctor.) and they were both really shocked that it has almost dissapeared on its own. So we don't have to go back again unless she starts getting UTIs for no apparent reason. We are so relieved and blessed. And glad that is over!

Firsts: Caroline's First Baby Food aka Peas Please

Caroline tried her first baby food: Green Peas.
I thought she would really like them because Eliza did, but she doesn't seem to care for them too much.
She has also tried green beans, and she doesn't seem to be a fan.

She is so different than Eliza in many ways.
Just as cute though.

Firsts: Caroline's first taste of cereal

Caroline tried her first cereal on the weekend of her 6 month mark. She wasn't too sure about it. We skipped rice cereal because Eliza loved oatmeal cereal and it always treated her better. Caroline seems to be a big fan.

Firsts: Caroline Rolling Over

Caroline finally rolled over about a week before her 6 month mark. She HATES tummy time. I was folding clothes and noticed her stuck in this position. Her top half was rolling over but her bottom half kept getting stuck. I ran to grab the camera because Kase was at work and I knew he'd be sad to miss it. It took a while but she finally got her bottom half over.

She was shocked and very proud of herself. It took a lot of energy though. I mean, have you seen her thighs! She has rolls on her rolls!

Caroline 6 Months

Our Sweet Caroline is half a year old!
At 6 months she:
- Weighs 16 lbs 6.5 oz
- 25 3/4 inches long

- Is very close to sitting up all by herself.
- Finally rolled over last week.
- Hates tummy time.
- Still doesn't sleep through the night. She wakes up usually 1 time, sometimes 1-3 times.
- Loves her big sister.
- Loves blankets and soft toys. She loves to put a blanket over her face to sleep. It scares me to death.
-Has zero teeth still, but seems to be a bitter.
- Gets excited to see you. When I pick her up from daycare she grins so big and makes squeeling noises. Then she grabs my face and gives me big gummy slobbery kisses.
- When she has a toy she likes, she makes this growling noise, shakes her face and arms, and tries to stuff whatever it is in her mouth.
- Currently wears 6-9 month clothes.
- Does not nap well.
- Is an overall smiley and happy baby. Only crying when tired or hungry.
- Has a very sweet disposition.
We are so grateful to have her in our family.
We love our sweet baby.
